The Literary Substack Launch Kit
A Founder's Desk Resource from Hollow & Page. For writers building a Substack that sounds like the work inside.
Most Substack launch advice is written for marketers.
This one is written for writers.
If you are a writer, a memoirist, an essayist, a novelist, or any kind of literary creator who has been thinking about starting a Substack or already started one and quietly stopped believing in it, this is for you.
The Literary Substack Launch Kit is the first Resource of The Founder’s Desk, the editorial studio of Hollow & Page Literary Publishing House. It’s a hybrid program built to help writers launch (or relaunch) a Substack that actually sounds like them. Not optimized. Not formulaic. Not borrowed from a marketing playbook designed for course creators and lifestyle brands.
A Substack that reads like the book you would write, if you wrote a book.
Why this exists
I built this because I watched too many literary writers try to launch their Substacks using advice that wasn’t made for literary work. The hooks were too aggressive. The frameworks too commercial. The voice templates too flat. And the result, every time, was a Substack that felt slightly hollow like a writer trying on someone else’s coat.
A literary Substack is a different animal. It needs a different launch.
It needs a writer to know what world their work lives inside. What atmosphere it carries. What its through-lines are. What kind of reader it is reaching for, and what to call them. It needs a structure that holds long-form writing without burying it. It needs a Welcome that does not sound like a sales funnel.
This Kit is the framework I wish I’d had when I was launching Hollow & Page. It’s what I would walk a writer through if they hired me 1:1 — and now, for a limited window, you can have it for a fraction of that cost.
What’s inside
The Literary Substack Launch Kit is a hybrid offering. You receive both the written materials AND personal strategy time with me.
The Materials
▸ The Brand World Foundation — a guided exercise to surface the atmosphere, through-lines, and voice signatures of your work. The thing your Substack needs to be about before it needs to be about anything else.
▸ Substack Architecture & Positioning Guide — how to structure your publication, name your sections, write your tagline, and design your About page so a reader knows immediately what they have walked into.
▸ The Literary Welcome Sequence — three drafted email templates (welcome, week-one, week-two) for new subscribers, written in literary register. Customize, send, done.
▸ Three Foundational Essays Mapped — your first three Substack posts, outlined and structured. The pieces that will plant your flag in the world and tell readers exactly who they have found.
▸ The Voice Discovery Workbook — exercises to surface your actual writing voice (not the one you have been performing) and build the language toolkit your Substack will run on for years.
The Calls
▸ One 90-minute Brand World Discovery call — we work through the Foundation exercises together, surface your through-lines, and lock in the soul of your publication.
▸ One 60-minute Review call — once you have drafted your Substack architecture and About page, we review, refine, and finalize before you go live.
Who this is for
For literary writers, memoirists, essayists, novelists, poets, and reflective nonfiction writers who want their Substack to feel like a place, not a content channel.
For writers who treat their writing as a craft and want a launch that honors that.
For people who have been circling a Substack for months or years without launching, because nothing they have read about how to do it has felt right.
For anyone whose work deserves an entrance, not just a beginning.
Who this is not for
If you are launching a Substack to grow a course business, sell consulting, or build a generic personal brand, this is not the Kit for you. There are excellent generic Substack launch resources for those goals.
This Kit is specifically for writers whose work is the work. Literary, reflective, atmospheric, intentional. If that is not you, you will be happier elsewhere, and I will be happy you found a better fit.
The Founding Rate
The Launch Kit is offered at a founding rate of $597 for the first three clients only.
After the first three, the price rises to $1,200.
The founding rate exists for one reason: I am building a portfolio of Launch Kit work I am proud to show, and the first three clients receive accessible pricing in exchange for working alongside me as the studio establishes itself. It is not a trick or a flash sale. It is the actual founding price of this offering.
Once three are filled, the rate goes up. Permanently.
How to begin
If the Launch Kit sounds like what your writing has been waiting for, here is how to start:
▸ Read the full overview at the link below. ▸ Email me at saralyn@hollowandpage.com with a few lines about your work, where you are in your Substack journey, and any questions you have. ▸ I will respond within two business days with the next steps. If we are a good fit, we book your Brand World Discovery call, and the work begins.

The lantern is lit. The desk is ready. If your Substack has been waiting for a real launch, I would be honored to help you build it.
